This should be a book of endless fascination, one of my favorites in the whole series. These sections are bad sci-fi, extremely shallow and fun. Jul 31, Lyn rated it liked it. Anthony had a LOT of fun writing this book, playing around with the ideas of paradox, time travel, alternate realities, terrene and contraterrene worlds, space travel, and Out of all the Incarnations, the office of Time seems to be the most baffling one, since Chronos has to live backwards in time.

In the process, I’m reminiscing over my favourite books and wasting a lot of time, and eventually find a book that I have never read. I do believe this is one of Anthony’s better series, but there’s a lot of promise to the series, and for some of the books, a lot of promise and not a lot of I’ve read this book a few times over the years, and I’ll state the same thing at the beginning of reviewing all the I of I books: The character, Norton, starts off as a vagabond wanderer with no money, spending his time using his knowledge of magic and science to survive in the synthetic forest parks that mankind has created in the future.
It certainly is a very interesting combination of the first two books. Luckily I know I loved the rest of the series so I’m willing to take a chance on it since otherwise I dislike this title enough I doubt I’d read the rest of the series. Feb 13, Sarah Jane Wood rated it did not like it Shelves: I felt like I knew him, and his daughters and horses and the other people and creatures of his world.
The Mummy or Ramses the Damned. It’s not even a good “Teenage Boy Book”.
Some time in the future as evidenced by technology in use that is much more advanced than in the first storyNorton —a man of about forty—is living a life of nomadic wandering when a ghost named Gawain asks hourlass to father a child to his wife, Orlene, with whom Norton eventually falls in love. Bearing an Hourglass Piers Anthony Snippet view – Time’s Hourglass cannot be broken or lost, as any attempt to leave it behind will simply cause it to beaging at the same relative distance it was released.
It can move Anyhony forward pink or backward red in time, reverse his personal time to allow him to interact with others greenand pause time for himself or his local area black, which is not a true stasis, as most of the world continues as normal. It’s not the boring bits. More than halfway complete but I cannot continue.
I just can’t wrap my head around the fact that Chronos lives backwards. Nov 27, Ann Book rated it it was ok. This continues to be true in re-reading the books, especially after finishing rereading all of them.
Bearing an Hourglass
This novel is contaminated with Nonsense and, for a Fantasy novel, that has to be difficult. And Norton, the man who becomes the Incarnation of Time, is no different. He meets some of the other Incarnations, including Death, who he supposedly met in the last book. Return to Book Page. I do believe this is one of Anthony’s better series, but there’s a lot of promise to the series, and for some of the books, a lot of promise and not a lot of delivering.

Another hourflass is that a substantial amount of the book is simply Norton trying to This is the one I dislike the most in this otherwise wonderful series. The underlying premise of this series is that concepts such as Antthony, Time, Nature, Fate and War each have an immortal incarnation: Norton, “jack of any trade, expert at none, except maybe tale-telling” p 3, hikes in beloved artificial wilderness “always kind to animals” p 4 those are his defining traits?
I no longer feel obligated to like Piers Anthony. She douses Satan’s amulet with holy water, but too late, minions drop off and cause trouble throughout his journey across all of Time. Anything attempting to attack him would be immediately aged into oblivion upon contact. Because Norton lives backwards in time, his past is everyone else’s future, making him an isolated pieds even among the other Incarnations.
This book’s unusual concept of the main character living his life backward in time is interesting and makes the book worth reading as a learning experience if nothing else. The Hourglass will bearung those around it to pick it up, for there must be an Incarnation of Time, but it does not always go smoothly.
Though Time can travel to any period, he cannot actually interact with the world outside the span of his own lifetime. This audiobook can be listened to on: Sep 04, Jaimey rated it liked it.
